Awhile back, I saw where somebody was puttin' down Hank because of how many cover songs were on the "I'm One of You" album. I don't remember who it was, but I've realized that there are some other artists out there who do much worse.
Do ya'll realize that Alan Jackson has made an entire career out of singing covers of other peoples' music? Now don't get me wrong, cause I like Alan as much as you, and he and I are Georgia brothers. But, here is a run-down of his cover songs:
Tall, Tall Trees
Mercury Blues
Summertime Blues
Hey, Good Lookin
If We Make It Through December
Who's Cheatin' Who
Pop a Top
Why is there no outrage? Why are people not complaining about AJ? I like Hank, and if he never sang an original song again for the remainder of his life, he would still do the COVERS better than the original artist. Maybe for his next album, Hank will cover "Way Down Yonder on the Chatahoochee."

Blues Man? Who sang that?
(Just kidding.) You're right. I forgot the most obvious one. I'm so absent-minded sometimes. :?

Who cares? As far as I'm concerned everything sounds better when Hank sangs it. Honky Tonk Woman and House of the Risen Sun are two good examples of songs done better by Hank. Is there any other artist, but Hank?

everybody does cover songs, whether people know it or not so whoever was putting down Hank was a jackass. Alan just tends to remake songs that where not that big in the first place.
Also, Little Bitty was orginally written and recorded by Tom T. Hall

The bottom line is that cover songs are such a small part of Hank's catalog that it's ridiculous to try to judge him based on that. Granted he has done his share, but his catalogs is one of the biggest around. He has made A LOT of music, and most of it he wrote. Hank is one of the best song writers in the history of country music. Listen to the hits and then listen to the ones that didn't even get released. He can write as good as or better than an superstar in history. He does covers songs to show his versatility. Afterall, who wants to hear an original rock song from a country guy? But, if that country guy can cover "La Grange" and make ZZ Top proud, people are gonna listen! Hank is a great singer/song writer and all around musician. He has written more songs than most artists out there and had more success than most too. He is a major influence in Nashville today. Say what you want, but the fact is Hank is an extremely talented and beloved musician. If you don't like it...well you know.

Hank Jr. should perform the Super Tramp song, "Goodbye Stranger"
This song is his life after his beginnings in Tattoine (Shreveport area) to his fall from the proverbial mountain to his ignoring the BS spoken by others with dark, alternative motives.
I'm going to see him tonight in Richmond VA at the state fair for the first time since I was 16 and saw him perform at the Hirsh Coloseum in Shreveport near about 1982.

Think ya'll are missing the picture here. Alan i feel cover's those song's as a tribute to the people he looked up to, plus the big deal about it all is this, alot of them guy's still get royalty's off those song's. Trust me im sure Tom T. Hall himself wished Alan Jackson would do more of his song's just for that very reason.
George Strait doing a old Vern Gosdin song im sure put a pile of nickels in ol Vern's pocket plus probably brought a light to a career that has been over and done with for many year's, bet his old recording's saw a spike in sale's right after that song come out.
Hank Sr. himself always got a big kick out of someone like Tony Bennett doing his song's, he considered it a tribute, pretty much same as I would.

Yes at that is very true, and you are right about Tom T. Hall. I read an interview where he said that he not only loved it when Alan Jackson rerecorded "Little Bitty" he said he thought he did a better job as well. Not to mention all the $ it made him.
