Get your mind out of the gutter! I am talking about your first time hearing a Hank Jr. song. ;lance
For me, it was "Country Boy Can Survive," and I was about 12 years old (I think). I was at summer camp and it was a hot day, kinda like today! :) I just immediately fell in love with those minor blues riffs, and it still sounds just the same every time I hear it!

I can not rember the first time I heard Hank, seems like I was born a Hank fan. But I do recall when I was young riding with my Granddad to Florida and A country boy can survive came on the radio and Grandad turned the radio up loud and we where jamming out. I was thinking wow I got a really cool Grandad. He has always been and still is to this day a Big Hank Jr. fan
my mind don't go back that far and things

The first time I heard a Hank song was in 72 or 73 when he recorded Standing in the Shadows, then his first no. 1 was Eleven Roses in 1974. I thought after I heard Standing in the Shadows that Hank is a very talented artist.

The first Hank Williams Jr Song I heard was Stoned At The Jukebox, I was sneaking Hank Jr and Friends in my house past my mom and thought the songs title was cool. Little did I know I was fixing to invest alot of money and love for his music. I wouldnt change it for the world. Hank Jr and Merle Haggard have done alot of drinking with me, they just dont know it. LOL

Bama, I don't guess I've ever heard that put quite so eloquently. We need a smiley on this site to represent when someone has just made a profound statement.
(But this ain't the one.) ;nosepicker

I remember Born To Boogie from FOREVER ago! My dad had a black and orange truck (yep, he painted it to look like the sucky ass Bengals!...hey, they were good back then! ) and he had a big orange pool ball on the gear shift and a Hank Jr cassette case cover stuck to the middle of the steering wheel. Born To Boogie was playing CONSTANTLY in that ole truck!
What a great post RS.....although, my mind was in the gutter before I opened it!

I was born into a Hank Jr. Family. From the begining (birth) my dad had Jr. playing on the record player first thing in the morning. When me and my brother went to bed at night Jr. was still playing on the player. My some of my best memories was waking up on Sunday morning, walking into the kitchen and seeing my dad reading the sunday paper and listening to Hank on the player. But the best memory is when I was 7 years old my parents took me to my first concert. Of course it was Hank Jr.. The concert was a outside, and it was pouring rain. I remember this like it was yesterday, the moment Hank started singing the rain went away and the sun came out. Here it is 30 years later and I haven't missed one concert in Ohio yet. I thought I was going to miss the one coming up Aug 26th ( my brother 32 yrs just went through a kidney transplant) but things have turned around so I get to go and stay on track. Many of my memories have to do with Hank jr. He has been at my wedding, the births of children, all my parties, and now at my brothers transplant. And many more things through my life. In our attic I have the normal memory boxes for my children, but beside them I also have my Bocephus box, with years of Hank memories. I hope that Hank realize how important and special he is to fans. Sorry for being long but when it comes to Hank Jr. I get on a roll.

the first time I ever heard hank jr. I was out at my uncle jack's house and " A Country Boy Can Survive" came over the radio it was the best song I had ever heard. I've only seen him 8 times he doesn't make a lot of trips to West Virginia very much but I've been to every concert of his that he has made to WV since 1984. One of my all time favorite songs of hank is " Looking At The Rain" . I have 43 Records, cassetts,CDs of hank.

I remember "Family Tradition" long ago in the 80's sometime and "A Country Boy Can Survive" ofcourse. My mom was a country fan, my dad a rock fan and they mixed together with Bocephus
Y'all already know that I dated (and married) the preacher's son, but my first hank Jr experience was when I was about 15 (1985) and my future husband's brother had a Hank Jr tape that he snuck into the house. His parents would have sh*# at brick if they knew we were listening to Hank Jr, but we listened anyway. I have been an addict ever since. These days my poor father-in-law has faced the fact that his daughter-in-law not only likes Hank Jr, but that she LOVES Hank Jr, LMAO.

Welcome to the board, EarnhardtFan, and thanks for posting that. As far as "The World Don't Revolve" song goes, the first time I ever heard Hank sing it, he said it was going to be on his next album. So, even though it's been a while, I'm thinking that is still the plan. He has also done a duet with Rhett Akin that is supposed to be on his next album (as far as I understand). We will just have to stay tuned, I guess.

I REMEMBER HEARING SONGS LIKE, STONED AT THE JUKE BOX, SHADOWS IN THE 70S AS A KID BUT DIDNT KNOW WHO SANG THEM, I JUST LIKED THE SONGS. THEN COUNTRY BOY CAME OUT. I AS A KID ORDERED MAN OF STEEL AND GREATEST HITS 1 ON 8-TRACK OUT OF THE TV GUIDE, JUST TO GET THE COUNTRY BOY CAN SURVIVE SONG. I DIDNT KNOW WHICH ONE IT WOULD BE ON.( I STILL HAVE THESE BY THE WAY, JUST DONT KNOW WHERE.) THE ONLY SONG I WOULD PLAY WAS COUNTRY BOY, THEN I HEARD PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT MAN OF STEEL,AMERICAN DREAM,FAMILY TRADITION, AND SO ON. I STATRTED LISTENING TO ALL THE SONGS ON BOTH TRACKS. IVE HAD A KILLER CASSETTE COLLECTION, BY THE EARLY 90S, AND NOW OWN, JUST ABOUT ALL THE CDS THAT ARE OUT. SO I GUESS I WAS BORN A HWJ FAN, AND DIDNT KNOW IT.
