Yes that song was on the Pure Hank(1991) album. On the inside of the CD liner it reads... "Virtually Unknown by most fans of country music, Arthur Q. Smith was well-known in his time by songwriters, singers, music publishers producers and agents as "the man who always had a song for sale" Sadly, his asking price for one song was usually $25, and by all account, the cash he got was spent on his passion for alcohol.
His songs were recorded by Hank Sr., Carl Smith, Ernest Tubb, The Carter Family, Ricky Skaggs and others, but efforts to induct him into the Songwriter's hall of fame have been unsuccesfull b/c there is no documentation that he wrote many of the songs he sold to popular country singers.
Harlan Howard wrote "Be careful who You Love (Arthur's Song)" as a tribute to Arthur Q. Smith b/c, in his words, "Arthurs plight really bothered me and I felt like the man deserved some recognation for the contribtuion he made to this wonderful profession of ours.""
