I just got to thinking that Hank has worked with almost all of the great legends of country music. "That Old Wheel" with Johnny Cash. Several songs most notably "The Conversation" with Waylon. "Mind Your Own Business" with Willie. "A Teer in my Beer" with his dad, and "I Don't Care if Tomorrow Never Comes" with George Jones. However, I don't think he has ever done anything with Merle Haggard. This seems a little odd considering how Hanks fans like Merle and Vice Versa, and I have heard Merle and Hank talk nicely about eachother.
So what do yall think about this? Why haven't they worked together, and do you think they should?

I have no clue why they never worked together but in concerts in the 80's he would sing some songs by merle like where the lonely goes.

Those two are just about the best singers and songwriters as they come. I love their music, style and attitude. Would be great to see them tour together. :D

I think I would pay thousands to see them together Bama. The Hag is probably the best workin mans song writer that has ever lived.

Someone had to have thought of this before me, I guess it just never came to fruition for one reason of another

Not to steal this thread, this kinda relates, but wasn't there supposed to be a tour with Hank, Haggard, Willie, and someone else? Weren't they supposed to be the lost highwaymen? Kind of a take off of Waylon, willie, johnny cash, and Kris Kristofferson as the highwaymen. I know I heard rumors about that, wonder what happened to that idea? Because if there ever was a 'kick ass" idea, that's it.

I read something about that in Country Weekly magazine about a year ago I think the fourth was Kris Krisstofferson. I don't know what happened to the whole idea. But I hope it happens.

I don't know if this is related or not, but this could explain why Hank and Merle haven't done more things together.
My wife has read Waylon Jennings' autobiography and he talked about a time when Merle (and his band) met up with Waylon (and his band) on the road. There had just been an accident of some sort and one of Waylon's band members was killed, so he and the band were upset and were drinking. They were also playing poker with Merle's crew, and they lost a lot of money to them, so Waylon felt like Merle had taken advantage of them when they were already down.
Since Waylon and Hank were very close, I wonder if there aren't still some ruffled feathers there. Just a theory.

Maybe, Hank has/had a lot of friends in the music business but none any closer than Waylon, so maybe that pissed off Bocephus.
