On how to get my dog to bring the ducks back? She is a Cocker Spaniel/Husky mix, Which sounds wierd but she is a great dog and a natural hunter. She is always killing rats and stuff from out of the hayfield. When I first got her I had no intention of her being a bird dog, but she seems to love it. When she was about six months old I was out hunting Starlings in the back yard, I shot one and without me even knowing she was there, she ran up and snagged it. Anyway, Its easy enough to get her to bring starlings back, b/c its such close range, but how do i get her to bring Ducks back from farther off?

P.S. I call her but she seems more interesting in playing with the duck

Just keep rewarding her with treats and she will get use to it

Problem is I can't get her to come back at all so I can give her a treat.

thats not good, i would try in a small area, like a fenced yard or something like that

Doe, you have gotta convince little joe's husband to get on here, no kidding. He would love this stuff here. He has trained so many dogs it's ridiculous. I sure don't know the answer to this question myself, but I know that he would have some suggestions if he would just get on here.

I don't know, but I think me and little joe have got to combine forces and tell him about all the hunters/fishers on here. He really would get into that stuff. He LIVES for outdoor things. We'll work on it. :D

After reading your question, I saw in a Cabelas magazine they have several things available to help train your dog. Other than that I can't help, I just send my son out to find the birds.
