Proctorville, Ohio

Proctorville, originally Quaker's Bottom, is a village in Lawrence County, Ohio, along the Ohio River},named after James Proctor, Proctorvilles first postmaster. The population was 620 at the 2000 census. A bridge across the Ohio River connects Proctorville to Huntington, West Virginia.
The mayor is Jim Bucannon. The Village Hall, located at 301 State Street. The Proctorville Police Department currently employs four part-time Police Officers. The Water Departmnet is also located in the Village Hall.
According to the United States Census Bureau,
the village has a total area of 0.7 km²
Demographics
As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 620 people, 277 households, and 168 families residing in the village. The racial makeup of the village was 98.06% White, 0.97% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.16% from other races, and 0.65% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.32% of the population.
In the village the population was spread out with 22.6% under the age of 18, 10.5% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 24.0% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years.
Education
Proctorville is home of the Fairland school district with 1841 enrolled students [1]. The school mascot is the Dragon.
Claim to Fame
The Rome apple was developed in Proctorville Ohio (in Rome Township) in 1866. The Rome apple is excellent for baking or eaten fresh in Waldorf Salad
