It was a Saturday Mornin' it was rainin' I had just got up out of bed and was going squirrel huntin'
like always on every Saturday in Oct. I was about 17 the year was 1987. As I left the house the rain slacked off
just a little but stayed steady I walked around the hill into the holler I went down to almost the creek where
I had set quite a few times it was just the right time of year for the squirrels to be cuttin' Hickory, Pignut, Walnut some Oak and Maple.
I sat down right below about 5 big trees of Pignuts and 1 big ole Walnut after a while I saw a Squirrel
but it was a long way off maybe 70 yards up hill through the limbs I was hunting with a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 guage pump full choke
so I figured that I would chance such a long shot I missed, not long after that I seen another which was much closer
but it seen me and was going through the tree limbs 100mph I shot at it anyway missed again the rain started coming down
a little harder so I got up and slowly walked up the creek I seen another I shot and missed I was gettin' angry
cause I rarely miss 2 in a row and now I was 0-3 I always had plenty of shells I wasn't going to run out but I hated to miss
I kept a record of how many I got and how many shots it took I kept the records every year all year long and on this day
I was having a very bad day. It didn't take me too long to miss 2 more now I was 0-5 this day was going to be the
worst day I ever had well I guess everyone has bad days this just happened to be my 1st but I didn't give up
I kept on hunting on up the holler I went I finally came to the Head of the holler and as I peered up the hill
I seen 2 squirrels playing in the top of a big Oak tree I got up out of the Creek and made it to the 1st flat of the hill
I was still a good 50 yards down hill from them but now I could only see 1 of them and it had stopped for a min.
I figured that I would try to shoot it from there I took carfull aim and shot I got it I thought Good I'm going home as
I was climbing the hill I heard something bounce or move and I thought it was still alive so I hurried up there
so it wouldn't get away when I got up there I found 2 squirrels I had killed both squirrels with 1 shot I was like
WoW incredible that was the only time that I had never done this My whole life and never done it again
suddenly my very bad day turned into a great day my record for the day was 2-6 (2 squirrels out of 6 shots) but really it was 2 with 1 shot.
