Its been awhile since we did this so I'd like to hear hear about ya'lls first experience with Hank's music when you realized you were a Hank Williams Jr. fan. I'll start with my own story.

HEADPHONES!!! Man I was a hippie wannabe rebelling against country music when the "Outlaw" movement began in the 70s. I was diggin Waylon and Toy and all them boys. Then one day after a day on the tractor a buddy tuned me up with some weed and turned me on to Hank's "Hank Williams Jr. & Friends" album. He told me to take the 8track home and crank it up on the headphones. I hit the recliner in a damn good mood and cranked up the phones and was blown clean away by the sound that was comin outta them speakers. It was solid country gold. I had heard people singin about huntin and fishin and guitar pickin but never like this before. And all the while givin Nashville the finger. Well I've been a Hankster ever since and always will be. That man can play!!!

Okay its your turn.

Alright..

I first heard Hank Jr on the Radio when I was kid back in 78 or 79 on WZZK out of B'ham. Had a little record player back then and Somehow I got my hands on a Family Tradition LP and then went to see Hank the next year at the BJCC and I've been going and buying Albums/Cassettes/CD's ever since.
30 years strong in the touring department and it never gets old. I think I passed my good taste in music down to my kids too, and that makes me a proud Dad. ;rock

I don't remember the first time I heard Hank Williams Jr. Growing up in Mississippi, I was saturated with country and southern rock music. But when I really became a fan of Hank Williams Jr. was when I lived in New York for two years. Something about those songs about the South, that I was missing so much at the time, just struck a nerve with me. That's when it got deep.

Excellent post. I was at a summer camp when I heard my first Hank song (CBCS). By the time that summer was over, I had bought every Hank cassette that I could afford. Actually, back then it was more an issue of finding the cassettes. :? There was no Wal-Mart, and due to Hank's popularity, my little neighborhood record shop couldn't keep his albums on the shelf. He was HUGE! And he still is, in my book. But it's funny to see how popularity just shifts with the wind. ;insane

By the way, I was on here last night when you posted this, and I was drinking up a storm! I kept editing my post, and finally came to the conclusion that I was too drunk to form a rational thought. So, I gave up.

I first heard Hank when I was a kid, but my family was never really into him. I had a friend that had the Born to Boogie tape and I loved it. Her dad was a huge Waylon fan, so I heard a lot of good music at her house. I always liked Hank, Jr., but I would have to say that I was not a huge fan until Rebel Son bought the Almeria CD and then took me to a concert that same year. I didn’t' even realize I knew so many Hank songs. Before I realized it, I was singing and hooping and hollering. It wasn't even a concert. It was a party and I LOVED it!
