I mentioned in another post that we got a brand new grill. ;hyp We are loyal to cooking with "real fire," by which I mean we use real wood, or at least hardwood charcoal. (We think it gives the food a better flavor, despite the extra soot and smoke that it produces.) But, over the years I have decided to buy a propane grill, for those times when I don't want to build a friggin' fire from scratch.

So, we bought something called an "infrared" grill. Anybody ever heard of it? It runs on propane, just like a regular gas grill. But the burners produce a flame so hot that it falls into the light spectrum at a color that is invisible to humans. ;hid

At first, it sounded like a microwave oven. But a little more research revealed that regular charcoal cooking gets hot enough to produce 25% infrared light. So, it's kinda like taking the best of both worlds. ;hyp So far, so good. We cooked burgers yesterday, steak last night, and HTS is prepping some shrimp right this very minute. Come on down, if y'all ain't busy.

Man, that sounds some kinda good.

I hadn't heard of the infrared grill 'til now, but I have heard of infrared turkey fryers. For some reason, they don't need oil. I'm kinda befuddled by this, but they used to advertise them on John Boy & Billy's Big Show.

I've heard of it, but never been able or lucky enough to experience it yet.

Yeah, I was afraid it might be like those turkey fryers, with just some kind of heating coil (no flame). But this one has a flame. I'm still a little "befuddled" by it, myself, to be honest. But it cooks great, and cleans up easy.

I've heard of them but haven't seen one yet. I usually use wood or lump charcoal. I have a Holland gas grill but rarely use it. I'll have to check out the infrareds and see how they do.
